Sometimes, a place finds you.
Sometimes you don’t find a place.
A journey through homes, places, and the reality of starting again in Italy.
Welcome
Ciao! I’m Monica, and I know what it feels like to start over in a new country. Not on paper, but in real life.
I was born in the Czech Republic, but Italian music, food and culture were always part of my childhood. Since then, life has taken me across borders, with years spent in the UK and Dubai, each place teaching me something about what it really means to build a life somewhere new.
Over time, travelling through Italy’s towns and villages, something shifted. Italy no longer felt like a destination. It felt like home, a place that spoke to my soul.
Through Expat the Explorer, I share lived experience and practical insight to help you navigate the realities of buying a home, handling paperwork, and building a life in Italy that actually feels like yours.

Notes
Practical guides, costs, taxes, and lessons learned while exploring property across Italy.
Residency, healthcare, bureaucracy, and everyday life beyond the holiday experience.
Towns, villages, and regions I've explored throughout Italy.
Personal observations, stories, and reflections from the journey.
A lifetime of relocation experience, dedicated to your Italian dream.
I don't think I've been searching for a place on a map.
I think I've been searching for a feeling.
Something slower than the cities I’ve lived in.
Something softer than the life I used to know.
London taught me pace. Dubai taught me ambition.
But neither taught me stillness.
So I started leaving, not to escape, but to listen.
To places. To silence.
To light on old stone in small Italian towns.
Italy wasn’t a decision. It was a call.
Now I move through it slowly; village by village, road by road;
not looking for perfection, but for what feels quietly right.
A place that doesn’t announce itself. A place that simply feels.
This is where I share the journey behind my explorations,
real places, real homes and the quiet reality of moving through Italy beyond what you see in listings.
The moments in between, the thoughts that don’t always make it on camera and the parts of the journey that stay with me longer than the destinations themselves.
If you’ve come from YouTube, this is the quieter side of the story.
If you’re new, you can start anywhere.

Why Italy?
The Journey
Places, moments, and roads that stayed with me.

More chapters coming as I continue exploring Italy, town by town.
Ostuni, Italy
A road to Italy
A €35K house with land outside Ostuni, or a €70K apartment in the historic old town?
I explore both, from olive groves to narrow white streets, trying to understand what makes sense, and what simply feels right.
Part of an ongoing journey through buying property and life in Puglia.
The moment the idea became real, leaving behind what was familiar, and driving toward something unknown.
This is where the journey to Italy begins.

Notes from the Road
Where I'm
I move between Dubai and Italy,
between two different worlds
while searching for a place that truly feels like home.
Along the way, I keep returning.
To the south.
To the light.
To the quiet rhythm of Puglia.
To long roads lined with olive trees.
To open countryside that asks nothing of you.
To a kind of silence that feels whole, not empty.
Lately, my path keeps leading me back
to the same landscapes,
the same softness in the air,
the same feeling I can’t quite explain.
A place that feels familiar…
like something I haven’t lived yet,
but somehow already miss.

A note
I move through places slowly.
Not to collect destinations, but to understand what makes them stay with me.
Some towns feel temporary.
Others don’t let go so easily.
This is where I share the ones that stay.
The homes, the towns, the quiet moments in between.
For those of you who are also dreaming of a life or home in Italy, I share what I learn along the way. From real places, real properties, and the reality of what it actually takes to begin again here.
And if our paths happen to cross along the way,
you’re welcome to walk a little further with me.
